Get a Library Card
Emporia Public Library cards are free to all Kansas residents with proof of current residency (see Circulation Policy for details). Patrons age 17 and under need the signature of a parent or legal guardian to obtain a card. Parents/legal guardians are responsible for the materials checked out on their child's card and the information accessed on computer workstations.
Always bring your library card when coming to the library; keychain cards are available so you will always have your card handy! With your card, you can check out books, DVDs, audiobooks, kits, and more for free! A EPL card also grants you access to the online materials through Sunflower eLibrary.
How to Get a Library Card:
You may fill out your EPL library card application in-person at the circulation desk; if you are coming in person to the Emporia Public Library, bring a photo ID. If you would like to apply for a card online, you may do so at the link below; you will receive an "online only" card until you are able to bring in a photo ID; at which point we will grant you full library card access.
How to keep your library account in good standing:
Use our 24-hour book drop or return items to the book drops inside the building.
Take care of the items that you check out. If items are damaged when you receive them, please let us know immediately.
Keep track of what materials you have out on your account and return materials by the listed due date.
Review your account online (requires card number and your password). You can also sign up for autorenewal (when available) and due date reminders. If you find an error, please let the library know immediately by phone or email.
Keep the library informed of address or phone number changes so that you will continue to receive reminders promptly.
Note: We are a fine-free library for most items. All items must be returned either to the outside book drop (open 24/7) or inside at the circulation desk. If you have any questions about your account, please call us at 620-340-6462 or email us at email@example.com and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
