MATCH DAY

This year we will help the Emporia Public Library increase health literacy in Lyon County through hands-on nutrition education and health information programs. The Friends are raising funds for a Charlie Cart, an all-in-one mobile cooking station. The Charlie Cart will be used for programs in the library and out in the community via the Library on the Go book van that was purchased, in part, with our 2019 Match Day proceeds. The library will collaborate with area agencies that provide local resources for food relief and health information. We ask that you consider making a gift to the Friends of the Library on Match Day to make the addition of this cart to our wonderful library a reality.

The more you give to the Friends of the Library, the more they will receive from the Emporia Community Foundation $60,000 match pool. Donations of cash or checks will be accepted NOW THROUGH NOVEMBER 15 at the Emporia Public Library during operating hours and on November 15 from 9:00AM–5:00PM at the Emporia Community Foundation or online at emporiamatchday.com/FOL. Please make donation checks payable to the Emporia Community Foundation and note FOL on the memo line.

The Friends of the Library (FOL) believe in the worth of an effective and attractive library.  Its members pay a small membership fee and many serve in a volunteer capacity on the Friends Board, on committees and in various roles for the two annual FOL book sales.  FOL advocate for literacy and education by providing funding for the library’s programs and materials.

The Friends raise money through used book sales, donations, and FOL membership dues.  The library benefits in many ways because of the efforts of the Friends who give thousands of dollars to the library each year for programs. Some members volunteer to assist with library programs for area seniors, adults, teens, and children throughout the year.  The Friends are especially proud of supporting the library with funds for

  • Summer reading programs for all ages

  • Summer Kids’ Koncerts Series

  • library newsletter

  • promotional items and refreshments for library programs

  • the annual volunteer luncheon for the library board, Friends volunteers, and other library volunteers

  • BookPage  magazine

  • multiple copies of books for book discussions

  • staff development activities

  • Accu-cut dies for library bulletin board use

  • book baskets for library use

  • Children’s Room furniture

  • annual donation to the Emporia Public Library Endowment
