FAQs

What is the Summer Reading Program?

The Summer Reading Program is an annual initiative by the Emporia Public Library designed to encourage reading and learning during the summer months. It helps combat the “summer slide”—the learning loss that can occur when school is out—by keeping minds engaged and active. Participants of all ages can log their reading, attend events, and earn prizes, making reading a fun and rewarding activity all summer long.

When does the Summer Reading Program start?

The 2025 Summer Reading Program runs from May 28 through July 31. Registration opens on May 28, and you can sign up via Beanstack or pick up a paper log at the library.

How does it work?

You can participate by tracking your reading minutes either online through Beanstack or with a paper log available at the library. Throughout the program, you'll have opportunities to attend events, complete reading challenges, and earn prizes based on your reading milestones.

I’ve used Beanstack before; can I use it this summer too?

Yes! If you’ve previously used Beanstack, you can continue to use your existing account to log reading minutes and participate in this summer’s program. Simply log in at bit.ly/EPLbeanstack starting May 28.

Why do you need my age/grade?

Prizes are distributed based on your age/grade level: Kid, Teen, and Adult. Readers are considered Teens if they are at least 10 years old and they will be in 6th grade in fall 2025.

The mission of the Emporia Public Library, a tax-supported community resource, is to provide users of all ages access to informational, educational and recreational services, materials and programs.
